Rad Design // Cameron Adams X Daft Punk
Cameron Adams is an Australian designer who took upon himself the incredible task of making a good Daft Punk mash-up. But he didn’t stop there. As a visual and interactive designer, Adams sought to create “a data visualisation involving the process of remixing and mashups,” specifically with his newly crafted “Definiteve Daft Punk” mash-up song. The results are stunning. The mash-up is mixed well and serves as a quasi-how-to listen to Daft Punk. And the visual representation of the mash-up is something I’ve never seen before – very rad.
So head over the Cameron Adams’ website, Anatomy of a Mashup, to feast your eyes and ears on a 7 minute Daft Punk joyride. The visuals are stunning and all together hypnotizing. Oh! And you can download the mash up at the top right corner of the screen. Grab that radness!

Daft Punk Helmet Evolution
While I’ve certainly noticed some changes over the years, I’ve never sought to look at it in such detail. But provided this exists, let’s get all nerdy about it – that’s what the guy who created this is doing. The image was created by Daft Club user wolf_boy2027 and while writing this post I realized that he updated the image with some additional words. Check below.

new music video & remixes // Daft Punk – Derezzed
Daft Punk just put out an official video for their first, er, single, off their most recent musical endeavor, the Tron: Legacy Official Soundtrack.
You won’t be pressed to find a critic or blogger that hasn’t said “Derezzed” is the most “Daft Punk” thing on the new Tron:OST – but that’s because it is true. It is probably the only song on the album that, if removed from the context of the soundtrack, still holds up as a good DP song. While the entire soundtrack is wonderfully composed and produced, it’s still just a movie score: worthy of a couple full listens but truly meant to be accompanied by the film itself. Even though its place is amongst the complete Tron:OST, let’s bask in the idea that “Derezzed” is actually a new Daft Punk single, cause that’s what everyone seems to be doing.
I must say, I was not expecting this video. Not at all. I thought their appearance in the movie and production of the OST would have been enough publicity for the reclusive robots – but I was wrong. And boy am I glad. This video gives me hope. There has been so much speculation as to what to expect from them: What type of publicity will they be doing? Are they going to tour? Is there going to be a new album? Oh the questions! Oh the possibilities! The guys of Daft Punk seem to be embracing their, now, even bigger, fame and are really putting themselves out there. I can only hope for more.
But seriously, this video is awesome. And Daft Punk’s actual appearance in the video is so bad ass! I really love the retro vibe of this video like the old wire graphics and dusty arcade machines. Also, I couldn’t help but think of Michael Jackson’s video for “Smooth Criminal” in those opening shots – its feels so familiar. Anyways, the video ends up being a short story that parallels to that of the actual concept of Tron – users and programs. Daft Punk may be an exceptional case for this paradigm, but, as robots, running on programs, are they really even users?
Nerdy thoughts aside, and to further provide some evidence that “Derezzed” is being treated like a true Daft Punk single, let’s listen to some remixes. First off, fellow Frenchies, We Are Crisis Children give the song an even more glitchy vibe with a few rad chants. Cassettes Won’t Listen gives the track a more ambient feel with a slight touch of dub. Then we have Breakdown, who effortlessly turns the song into a dance floor killer – lots of build ups and heavy bass. And finally, my favorite of the remixes thus far, is by NTEIBINT. While he certainly adds his own touch, this remix doesn’t stray too far from the original – it simply becomes radder. Enjoy the remixes, go out and buy the Tron: Legacy Soundtrack, and go see TRON!

Thursday Theatricals 3
Chilly Gonzales, formerly just Gonzales, is an artist whose music you are probably familiar with, but you don’t even know it. His song, “Never Stop,” is that catchy, snappy, poppy little piano tune used for the famous Apple iPad commercials. Or maybe you’ll recognize it as the song Comedy Central used to promote the new season of South Park earlier this year. Either way, you’ve probably heard the song and now you know who it is by: Chilly Gonzales.
Introduction aside, let’s get to business. Earlier this year, Chilly Gonzales put out the mixtape “Pianist Envy” that was a piano driven symphony of sorts. It included tracks by Beyonce, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, but most importantly, Daft Punk. Chilly laid some serious piano work over the Daft Punk track “Rollin’ and Scratchin’” along with a nice monologue by and fron Rocky Balboa. The monologue is genuinely inspiring and combined with the punching frenzy of ivory keys by Gonzales with the ominous electro sounds of Daft Punk, this is one of the best remixes I’ve heard. Ever.
Now, if the song alone isn’t rad enough for you, Jonathan Barré went ahead and produced quite the music video for the remix. Check out the video below and be prepared to be inspired – in a cheesy, sports montage kind of way. This song and video combination will definitely give you the sudden urge to do something.
Pick up the “Pianst Envy” mixtape here or just download the Daft Punk remix below.

Seriously though, I know you want to go accomplish something right now, so get all Rocky Balboa with it and get to it! That’s how winnin’ is done.
New Daft Punk track release with new Tron: Legacy trailer
The employment of Daft Punk for Tron: Legacy was initially shocking and I’m sure “sell outs” came to the minds of many. But seriously, Daft Punk is totally carrying this movie. From the soundtrack, the promos, to the guest appearances (and the possible tour?) – it’s hard to imagine what Tron: Legacy would be without Daft Punk. I’ll just be thankful they’re there.
Most likely in anticipation of the upcoming Tron Night, a new trailer has been released and it features the full length track “Derezzed” by the famed DJ duo. This is exciting to say the least. Check out the trailer and, more importantly, listen to the song below.
Excited much? Both this movie and soundtrack are going to own 2010. I really hope they aren’t teasing us with this “Derezzed” track. It’s definitely heavy on the electro-dance sounds, but I have a seeping suspicion that there may be but a few songs, if this isn’t the only one, that sound like this. While many are treating the Tron: Legacy OST like it is Daft Punk’s fourth LP, it sadly is not. While the hype is high, I am keeping my expectations limited and low. I can only hope to hear more tracks like “Derezzed” appear on the OST. Time to watch the clock…

Daft Punk + Star Wars. Enough said.
I am huge fan of both Star Wars and Daft Punk. The fact that the two – plus many others – came together for this amazing commercial is just too rad not post.
I wonder if it was actually Daft Punk or if they hired actors?

Mundane Mondaze Mash-Up 4
Voidstar, by the looks of his website, is quite the mash-up artiste. I’ve never heard of him until I came across his recent “Sweet World of Mine.” Guns N’ Roses and Daft Punk are two artists I never expected to come together in a mash-up – well, not really Guns N’ Roses, but rather a cover by Banda do sul – but Voidstar impressed me with this soulful funkadelic tune. The baseline from “Around the World” mixes quite well with the re-interpreted “Sweet Child of Mine.” Add a sultry voice and some peaceful flute work and you’ve quite quite the mash-up. Check it out…

I picked this track up from Groove City where there is a thought provoking debate about whether or not producers that make mash-ups should be considered artists. Interesting…
