Rad Design // Cameron Adams X Daft Punk

leave a comment »

Cameron Adams is an Australian designer who took upon himself the incredible task of making a good Daft Punk mash-up. But he didn’t stop there. As a visual and interactive designer, Adams sought to create “a data visualisation involving the process of remixing and mashups,” specifically with his newly crafted “Definiteve Daft Punk” mash-up song. The results are stunning. The mash-up is mixed well and serves as a quasi-how-to listen to Daft Punk. And the visual representation of the mash-up is something I’ve never seen before – very rad.

So head over the Cameron Adams’ website, Anatomy of a Mashup, to feast your eyes and ears on a 7 minute Daft Punk joyride.  The visuals are stunning and all together hypnotizing. Oh! And you can download the mash up at the top right corner of the screen. Grab that radness!

Rad Mashup // Michael Jackson + Telepopmusik

leave a comment »

This mashup is by no means new, but it is down right groovy.

“Remember The Time” was never my favorite Michael Jackson song, but when it is mashed up with the always classic “Breathe” by Telepopmusik, well, we’ve got some serious radness going on that is kind of hard to avoid.

DJ Sleeper is the man behind this beautifully crafted mashup and I must applaud him. This is definitely one of my favorites as it is refreshingly new, yet all too familiar. It’s a mashup done right.

I totally had this song on repeat while writing this. It’s sooooooo good.

Rad Music // DJ Invisiboy and his mashups

with one comment

DJ Invisiboy hit me up about his Phonograffiti mix and it’s quite the little jam session. Invisiboy has the skills to create intricate mashups but, above it all, I really fancy his track selection. In the best way possible, it is a bit all over the place. I must say, the opening sample from The Misfits instantenously pulled me in though. And from there, like I said, it’s a bit all over the place; from the necessary rap vocals to the selective melodies of Bonnie Tyler, Fleetwood Mac, Alan Braxe, Miike Snow, etc. – this mixtape is fully of surprise goodies. Just give it a listen and check out the tracklist.

Rad Artist // Vincent Bocognani

with 2 comments

I know I’ve come across Vincent Bocognani – who also goes by vinsse or vintz – and his work before, I just don’t recall exactly when or where. Either way, I was checking out some of his concept drawings over on the Behance Network and his work is flooded with video game and sci-fi references, interpretations and mash-ups, all with a distinct artist style that is unlike any artist I’ve seen. Check out my favorites below.

War For The Star // by vintz

Original Ghost Hunter // by vintz

Ancestral Battle // by vintz

Mashup // by vintz

Da Vinci Game // by vintz

The Real Adventure // by vintz
Heart // by vintz

Vintz has much more to offer other than video game and sci-fi references: check out more concepts as well as some additional art over on Behance, on his Flickr stream, and head over to Threadless or Society6 for some of his designs on t-shirts.

Charlie Skywalker by Tom Torrey

leave a comment »

Tom Torrey made this rad sculpture mash-up of Star Wars and Charlie Brown. Here you see Charlie Skywalker with his trusty companion Snoopy with an R2-D2 skull cap reminiscent of Tron Guy’s helmet. The look of despair on Charlie’s face paired with the inappropriate excitement of Snoopy is a perfect nod to the Peanuts legacy. Also, the detail of Charlie’s flight suit. Oh! And his blaster! This is definitely one rad mash-up.

Mundane Mondaze Mash-Up 13

leave a comment »

Mash-up king, Gregg Gillis, aka GIRL TALK, just put out a new album. It’s titled All Day. It’s free to download here.

Girl Talk is known for his furious fist-fight frenzy mash-ups that pull samples from everywhere.

I’ve yet to listen to this, but it is downloading as we speak. You should probably do the same.

Mundane Mondaze Mash-Up 12

leave a comment »

I can’t believe we are already a week into November. Geez. Back to the grind, I guess. I got some tunes to keep you going though, I reckon.

Remember that song, “Reckoner?” It’s by Radiohead, from, like, 2008 (or if you wanna get technical, it’s more like 2001, but who cares). The song has been covered, remixed, and mash-uped just about every which way. I have one mash-up though, that’s always a good listen.

Mash-up kings, The Hood Internet, dropped “Tambourine Reckoning” years ago, but it is still making waves in my head as it is always a refreshing song to listen to. The swift lady rhymes of Eve accentuated by the high pitched howl of Thom Yorke. Throw in a few hoots and hollers and we’ve got a nice little party going on here. There is a nice balance to this song, a little rap-pop-rock mash up if you will: hood enough for your rap buds, but “indie” enough for the rockers.

Mundane Mondaze Mash-Up 11 // Saucy Edition

leave a comment »

Now that Duck Sauce’s “Barbra Streisand” got the official treatment, the official remixes are gonna start rolling in: as if the bootleg remixes weren’t enough. Oh well. In addition to more remixes, a few mash-ups have surfaced and they’re are a lot of fun. I hope to hear more of these. Shall we…

Party Ben couldn’t help but infuse some Michael Jackson into the saucy diva to make “Beat Sauce.” As if “Beat It” wasn’t fun enough, Barbra helps it move up a few notches. This one is loads of fun. I really like the use of the “Michael Jackson” in lieu of “Barbra Streisand.” Nice touch.

Beat Sauce (Michael Jackson VS Duck Sauce) – Party Ben

Rather than going pop, Just Banks turned to ever popular genre of mash-ups, hip-hop. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to the original “How Low” by Ludacris by I’ve heard the track remixed and mashed-up six ways to Sunday – so here’s another. Nothing less that top notch production here, I just wish it hit a little harder.

Barbra Streisand (Just Banks “How Low” Remix) – Duck Sauce

I’m not sure when I’ll get sick of “Barbra Streisand” but I don’t think it is any time soon.

Mundane Mondaze Mash-Up 10

leave a comment »

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Back to work and the mundane so here’s a mash-up; this time I’ve got a little rock n’ roll for you.

DJ Franklyne took France’s and New York City’s finest rockers, Phoenix and The Strokes respectively, and put them together to create “Last Nite’s Lisztomania.” I initially grabbed this just for The Strokes; just like remixes, The Strokes only make rare appearnaces in mash ups, this being one of the few. Anyway, this song is the kind that grows on you. At first, it seems a bit amateur, but the more you listen, the more you will notice how intricately woven the mashup is. You’ll end up loving it. Just give it some time.

“Last Nite’s Lisztomania (DJ Franklyne Mash-Up)” – Phoenix vs The Strokes

Prior to the aforementioned song, I have only came across The Strokes in a mash-ups on a few other occasions, but that is for another Monday…
