Rad Music // Cat Cat Cat

leave a comment »

Cat Cat Cat is a mysterious cool cat who was kind enough to send me a track to post – what a nice guy. I can’t say much more than that because, well, there isn’t much to be found other than his Bandcamp and empty Facebook. Ah, but who cares, Cat³ makes some cool tunes and that’s all that matters.

The track he sent over is “Deeper” which is a solid house track; it’s upbeat and crisp with a semi-sexual vibe going on. Mr. Cat Cat Cat was nice enough to let you guys download it for free – again, what a nice guy – so give the song a listen and download to your heart’s desire. If you dig the sound, be sure to give the whole Deeper EP  a listen.

I perused Cat Cat Cat’s Bandcamp some more to find some really stupendous music, especially “Brothers & Sisters.” Keeping with the classic house vibes, this is my favorite song by the dude. Really good house revival stuff. He has more good house tracks so check out that Bandcamp already broseph!

To top it off, Monsiur Cat³ also has two interesting EPs – Taste and Drive – for you to download. Taste is short and experimental (reminiscent of Mr. Oizo)  and Drive is lo-fi and hypnotic (chillwavey?). Both EPs are lots of fun and make for good listening. Watch and listen to the videos below for “Streets” (from Taste) and “Simply Superb” (from Drive) to cop a feel.

Cat Cat Cat – Bandcamp, duh! Give this guy some money already!

Rad Music // Sebastien Tellier – “Pepito Bleu” & “Cochon Ville”

leave a comment »

Sebastien Tellier is gearing up to release his new album, My God Is Blue, tentatively in the later part April – via Record Makers, of course. He has released two songs thus far: “Pepito Bleu” and “Cochon Ville.” Below is the other worldly video for “Pepito Bleu” – it is more or less the set up for what to expect from this LP, which is almost certainly a concept album that seems to be a space-disco opera with the typical over the top theatrical style of Monsieur Tellier. I can’t wait!

The second song released, the one that really seals the deal for the space-disco theme (I hope), is “Cochon Ville.” The song leaked onto to YouTube earlier this month, but now has been officially posted to Sebastien Tellier’s Soundcloud with an accompanying remix by The Magician. While The Magician makes is a bit more dance-floor friendly, I still prefer the original which is simply divine. Check them out below.

Look for additional remixes by Brodinski, Dimitri From Paris, and Hey Champ coming April 9 in France and April 16 worldwide.

Rad Music // Kindness – World, You Need a Change of Mind review

with one comment

Kindness, aka Adam Bainbridge, released a new album today called World, You Need A Change Of Mind and I really like it. I’ve been excited about this release as I completely fell in love with all that Kindness had put out before this debut release (I wrote about “Gee Up” and “Cyan” already). The album didn’t have enough Gee Uped hunky-funk to WOW me, but it’s still a good listen. Here’s my track-by-track break down:

1. “SEOD” – Old song, already heard it, it already got a release, but it’s a good song. Nice intro with silly lyrics about dancing. Can we just stop singing about dancing now? Still a good sounding song. You’ll listen to it more than once.

2. “Swinging Party” – Another old song, actually a cover of a Replacement’s song (which I’ve never heard but all the music critics act like they have cause they’re so in the know). It’s another groovy track that I like.

3. “Anyone Can Fall In Love” – Finally a song I haven’t heard yet! It’s kind of lame and the bass is overwhelming and annoying. I will probably skip this song most of the time. The lyrics are kind of cute.

4. “Gee Wiz” – Another new song! Yay! Nothing about this song really stands out. It has a kind of new age ambient sound that’s slowing growing on me.

5. “Gee Up” – Old song, new production! Killer song that peaked my interest in Kindess and will always be my favorite. So short though. Shucks.

6. “House”New song and probably the best one of the album. The piano, the darkness, the bass (it’s not overwhelming on this track) – they all come together to make for amazing song that catches you off guard. This song will penetrate you. Good good stuff.

7. “That’s Alright”This song sounds like what certain hipsters look like, and it’s good and fun. Listen to this song and feel the sexy sax!

8. “Cyan” – Old song, old production, still good and worth the listen.

9. “Bombastic” – The song opens up sounding like a cheap attempt at a jazz and/or lounge song, then it get’s all Serge Gainbourg. Skip/listen ratio of 1 to 1.

10. “Doingsong”Funky song along the same lines of “Gee Up.” I wish the whole album was like this – it’s really what this guy excels at. Good track.

So what’s the verdict? Good or bad album? I’ll say good – it has its rad moments, which are unique and original, and listening to the whole thing is actually an enjoyable experience.

40% of the album is old material, granted 50% of that 40% got a new production polish that may or may not have been needed – they should have redone ALL the old songs. Of the remaining 6 tracks, 3 of them are stellar while the other 3 are just meh – but when I say meh, I don’t mean bad, just meh in the sense that I haven’t gotten used to them yet.

All in all, the album is funky, rad, and a good listen! Kindness totally created a new genre with this album – it’s called hunky-funk.

Rad Music // Ulysses – “Run Away”

with 2 comments

Who is Ulysses? Let us review the facts:

  • “Run Away” video uploaded to Vimeo on February 1, 2012 by Ulysses and Tal Amiran (the director of the video) – nobody watched it
  • Ulysses Forever creates YouTube account on February 28, 2012
  • 5 days later, March 2, the video for “Run Away” is uploaded to Ulysses Forever’s YouTube
  • 2 days later, March 4, Ulysses Forever starts a Twitter account with its first post being a link to their video, other silliness ensues
  • Some identifying tags on the YouTube video include: Simian, Daniel Lindegren aka Tommy Sparks, Simon Lord, Phoenix, Black Ghosts
  • Ulysses Forever follows 6 people, 2 of whom are tied to the video either by tag or promotion and 1 being Jesus Christ himself
  • Fake Blood – band mate of Simon Lord in the duo Black Ghosts – totally, like, Tweeted about the video today

My guess is that Ulysses is a side project of sorts from some various people with Simon Lord taking vocals. Maybe leftovers from Black Ghosts’ sophomore effort? Fun time for some talented dudes? Whatever the case may be, this song is killer juicy and will undoubtedly wet some panties. The video description is, “MUSIC FOR GIRLS.”

Follow Ulysses on Twitter and maybe you can solve the mystery, Who is Ulysses?

The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli

With great confidence I can assure you women are stronger than men. Today is a day to celebrate that strength.

Please be sure to always be thankful for the women in your life – I truly believe that without their care, this planet would fall apart.

Be Rad. Enjoy.

PS: As I’ve done in the past, a special edition of FFFFound! Friday celebrating women will be posted tomorrow.
