Start your summer with Beach Bum
Summer is finally here and I have perfect song to start it off with. It will go nicely with all the hot days and sunny skies that will soon be calling you outside to do nothing but bask in the summer sun.
Beach Bum is the moniker of one Wes Cadwell, a DJ/producer hailing from Santa Monica, California. He jokingly considers himself a real “beach bum” and is influenced by smooth operators like Breakbot, Hemingway, and Cassian. With influences like that it is easy to see why he makes “funky house originals” like “Pacific Coast Highway.”
“Pacific Coast Highway” is a consummate summer track as “it tells a story of two people (lovers) starting at the beach and driving up the coast of California and then they end up back at the beach.” The song starts with some soft synths over sound effects that immediately put you at the beach; then the journey begins. The song slowly builds with some funky plucks of the guitar, melodic piano chords, and a bass kick to get you nodding along. All the components of the song are so simply and perfectly layered you’ll be humming along with song before it’s over. I honestly can’t stop listening to it as it never fails to put me in a peachy mood. It’s got enough funk to make you want to dance and enough soul to make you want to just chill out. It’s a perfect summer track!

Whenever I listen to “Pacific Coast Highway” I imagine myself as a bobble-head doll chillin’ on the dashboard of a convertible car that is cruising down a sun drenched highway (a la Outrun).
Be sure to check back for more Beach Bum as he promises lots of “sweet summer disco” to be coming soon.
Be Rad. Enjoy.
