The Strokes remixed?

with 2 comments

One thing in life I’ve always wanted more of is remixes of The Strokes: they are my favorite modern rock ‘n roll band and I would like to see how (or should I say if) they managed well on the dance floor. Even more than that, I really want some Julian Casablancas remixes as well. When I first heard “11th Dimension” and how electronic and dancey it was, I expected a plethora of remixes to roll in. This unfortunately is not the case. I don’t know why, but I think a nice and heavy 4/4 beat remixed into some Strokes or JC would be divine. Enough about my desires…

I recently came across a Tommie Sunshine remix of “12:51” by The Strokes. As the title suggests, Mr. Sunshine does more of an edit than a true reworking. He extends some things, adds some intricacies to the drum beat, and all in all makes the song shine a new light while simultaneously keeping it true to the original. It’s really a good listen.

While doing some additional research to see if I could find anymore remixes I stumbled into a really nice remix of “Ask Me Anything” off First Impressions of Earth. Probably the most “non-Strokes” song The Strokes ever did, the song uses a mellotron in lieu of the fab five’s typical instrumentation. Mus-ok didn’t seem to like the mellotron-only sound so they decided to add some needed instruments and even some backing vocals. They really make the song sound a lot more complete than the original and a hell of a lot more listenable. Check it out.

I’m sure there a plenty more remixes of The Strokes out there – I didn’t even check youtube – but these are actually really good. I’m am dying for their new album to come out and remixes like these are going to keep  me sane until some new material surfaces. Until then…

Be Rad. Enjoy.
