From Russia with love – motorama
When I think of Russia all I honestly think of is vodka and cold enough weather that requires serious bundling. I don’t think of uplifting indie rock reminiscent of Belle and Sebastian paired with a deep coo similar to that of Paul Banks and Ian Curtis – but motorama are here to prove me utterly wrong.
I don’t know much about motorama other than they are from Russia, have 4 gentlemen and one lady in their band, and they make some seriously good tunes. I’m not much of an indie rocker as I used to be due to lack of greatness in the said genre of music. But every once in a while, a gem shines through the muck of indie-rock that has grown dull to me and really impresses me. Like I said, motorama’s vocals are deep and melodic: in a way, similar to Interpol. Although, the actual sound is nothing like that of Interpol – it is much more light and upbeat. Hell, it’s even pretty dancey. I don’t know what else to say other than they – motorama – have an amazing LP out called Alps available for free download at their website. It’s poppy, it’s dancey, it’s free. Below is the most memorable track to me, “Ghost.” Go over to their website get the whole thing you indie rocker you!
Be Rad. Enjoy.
