Chillwave – ya know?
Chillwave is a new hipster friendly sub-genre of music that is quite popular amongst all the cool kids. Guys like Washed Out and Toro y Moi gave the whole chillwave genre a certain omnipresence in the music blog scene and it’s definitely here to stay. Well, there is a new guy on the scene and his tunes are pretty dope.
Brothertiger is the alias of one John Jagos, a college student at Ohio University. I’m not sure what he’s studying, but he’s surely on his way to being a recognized musician. Like I said, chillwave – it’s lo-fi, garage pop, dreamy, shoe gazey – like you’re chillin’ on a wave maybe? Brothertiger mixes in a lot of musical elements to his many songs, but his track “Lovers” has the type of smooth yet glitchy sound I tend to gravitate towards. It’s sounds like a mix of hip-hop and soft rock. His track, “Feel,” really captures the defining sounds of chillwave, so give that one a listen too.
