Whandom Wiimix Wednesday 3 – Sam Sparro fills your pockets

Sam Sparro is an amazing pop artist. I was completely won over the first time I heard “Black and Gold” (video above). I bought his debut EP and at the time I felt a little let down. You know how it is, being utterly enamored  by one song and then having the expectation that everything the artist puts out thereafter should be as golden as that first experience. Disappointed, I sat on “Black and Gold” for a really long time; even after Sparro put out his full length studio album.

His latest single “Pocket” has the energy and catch that attracted me in the first place and totally resurrected my interest in good ol’ Sammy boy. Specifically, I came across The Preset’s remix of “Pocket” and couldn’t stop listening to it for days. It’s so damn catchy and the chorus is somewhat of a “type cliche” but geez, it doesn’t take but one listen to get stuck in your head all day. Check the video below and the song after the jump.

Ever since Monarchy showed up on my radar I haven’t been able to get enough of them. They have a new single coming out in the near future called “Love Get Out of My Way” and needless to say the disco dance vibes are seamlessly flowing.

Holy Ghost completely reworks the song and it reeks of funk – that’s a good thing. I’ve always loved disco and I love artists that aren’t afraid to revert back to the golden age of packed discotheques. Check out the “music video” for the song below and the song after the jump. It really seams like Holy Ghost may have used the first girls as inspiration for their work because they sync up too well. Love it.

New music feature. On top of having loads of mash-ups in my music library, I also have myriad remixes. Remixes, much like mash-ups, have somewhat of a tainted reputation of being unnecessary and/or useless – maybe even annoying too. I think they’re none of those, but then again, that is not the case for all remixes. Don’t fret, I won’t waste your time with any bad remixes but be warned, they are out there.

The first blessing I send you is a remix of the song “What You Need” by Priors. The original is a song to daydream to; a song that makes you think of loves past and present. It’s a little dancey, but nothing really to knock your socks off. Hey Champ, known for their killer track “Cold Dust Girl” are also known to put some good remixes together and their remix of “What You Need” is top notch. It adds a little something more to the original that makes it just wee-bit better. The use of Priors’ melodic harmonies throughout is amazing and you’ll be trying to sing along with the vocal cut-ups the whole way through. I’m really excited about summer and this track is perfect to build up the already accumulating momentum towards the solstice.
