Happy Birthday Carl Sagan

leave a comment »

Today, had he not already left this world, Carl Sagan would have been celebrating his 76th birthday. A champion of science and skepticism, Carl Sagan possessed the ability to make these institutions easily accessible and approachable.

Carl Sagan lives on in the hearts of many across the world, but one man, John Boswell, has dedicated himself to a musical endeavor that much like Sagan’s work, is “designed to deliver scientific knowledge and philosophy.” Under the project name Symphony Of Science, Boswell takes clips of spoken dialogue of prominent scientists – Sagan is nearly always present – and uses his skills with Autotune to produce songs not only fun to listen to, but also excellent lessons in scientific philosophy.

The first, and probably most famous of Symphony Of Science’s songs/videos is “A Glorious Dawn.” “Sung” entirely by Sagan (via clips from Cosmos) and featuring a snippet from Stephen Hawking, “A Glorious Dawn” is a optimistic tale of what the world is and the awesome potential it holds. If you are going to listen to anything from the Symphony Of Science, this would be the song to listen to. Check out the video below and grab the song after the jump.

Symphony of Science – “A Glorious Dawn” (Remastered by Cherimoya Eihn)

If you like this song and video, be sure to go to Symphony Of Science’s website. There are five more scientific serenades to please your intellect and all are free to download! If you want to stay up to date, you can also follow Symphony Of Science on Facebook and Twitter. A new video is going to be released very soon.

Happy Birthday Carl Sagan.

Be Rad. Enjoy.

New Darwin Deez video – “Constellations”

with one comment

Oh Darwin Deez, how I love thee. I mean, how can I not? Isn’t he just the most adorable little hipster you’ve ever seen? So skinny and quirky, he seems very huggable…

Joking aside, Darwin Deez just put out a rad new video for his old(ish) song “Constellations.” He channels Carl Sagan a la Cosmos, which couldn’t have gone better with this speculative space themed tune. The song, a clear internal battle to understand the heavenly bodies and those around you, is catchy yet ethereal. The melodic hum present throughout much of the track puts you at ease while Deez’s voice and lyrics pull you into a skeptic spin.

Again, I think the use of Sagan inspired imagery really compliments the melody. At times surreal, and others familiar, I’ve quickly fallen madly in love with this video. So much, I felt compelled to make this:

Be Rad. Enjoy.
