Monarchy – Autumn Mix

leave a comment »

My favorite mystery duo, Monarchy, just put out a nice mix for everyone to enjoy. I love their word choice. “Autumn.” It sounds so much better – much more sophisticated – than “Fall.” I honestly just can’t get enough of these guys. I really can’t. They’re one of those bands. Instant gold. Oh, and another thing I like (more like love) is how Monarchy gives each one of their remixes a special sub-title. Here, the “Black Galaxy” and “White Nebulae” remixes are slightly different than the original remixes (now you have to listen).

Monarchy – Not untill 2011

leave a comment »

I have been watching Monarchy with a very close eye ever since I first heard “Black The Color Of My Heart.” It is still my favorite song of theirs – so smooth and soulful. They’ve put out plenty of singles, a video, and even a space broadcast. They’ve built up quite the name for themselves but still feel like some people might not be in the know. Or at least that’s what their label thinks. Their full length LP was supposed to be out at the end of this month; that date got pushed back all the way to the end of January next year – yes 2011. Can you say bummer?

I’m disappointed to say the least, but I guess I’ll just relish in all the radness that they’ve already put out, including their newest single, “Love Get Out Of My Way.” I mentioned the amazing Holy Ghost in the past with it’s disco funk, well now Benny Benassi got his hands all over it and the Monarchy boys are handing it out for free. Check out the song below for a listen and download.

Ever since Monarchy showed up on my radar I haven’t been able to get enough of them. They have a new single coming out in the near future called “Love Get Out of My Way” and needless to say the disco dance vibes are seamlessly flowing.

Holy Ghost completely reworks the song and it reeks of funk – that’s a good thing. I’ve always loved disco and I love artists that aren’t afraid to revert back to the golden age of packed discotheques. Check out the “music video” for the song below and the song after the jump. It really seams like Holy Ghost may have used the first girls as inspiration for their work because they sync up too well. Love it.

It Must Be Love

leave a comment »

It has been love for quite some time with Monarchy, as they are no stranger to my frequently played list. They have a new single for “The Phoenix Alive” coming out May 1oth. Well it’s actually not that new, there’s a video for it and it has already gotten the remix treatment.

There is a new B-side that will be accompanying “The Phoenix Alive.” “It Must Be Love” is that new track and it’s lofty pop. The brightness of the tune will shine through your speakers and engulf you. Check it below and get carried away by its lightness.

4 songs your 2010 should not be without

leave a comment »

With all the fantastic sounds a yesteryear still making the rounds as well as fresh sounds creeping on to the airwaves, I know I spent much of January trying play catch up on music I should have been and need to be listening to. Now that January is over, I feel the need to share my findings. The four songs described below have been on constant repeat almost all month and they’ll certainly be a staple in my 2010 music listening. I hope you like.

I’ve heard a song or two from The Radio Dept. and I’m sad I haven’t given them more of my time. Hailing from Sweden, it is no surprise that The Radio Dept. produces excellent pop music. The band recently previewed the track “Heaven’s on Fire” off their upcoming album, Clinging to a Scheme, which is due out in March. A noteworthy feel good song, I can’t help but be put in a pleasant mood when listening. This song really reminds me of Peanuts, you know Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang. It’s a modern day “Linus and Lucy” if you ask me. There’s so much goodness wrapped up in this song and I love it!

Yeasayer – have you heard of them? You will. Their second LP, Odd Blood, is set to release next week on the ninth and I’m pretty sure it will be on the majority of the “Best of 2010” lists that have yet to be made. Hell it is probably on some people’s “Best of 2009” list too, as it leaked last year. Watching the video for “Ambling Alp,” the first single off Odd Blood, there is a cult presence felt that makes its way from the video into your soul. After giving the song a few listens you will be compelled to give in to the overwhelming drums and chants of Yeasayer. It’s gonna be hard to beat this band in 2010.

Monarchy are a mystery duo coming out of the UK with guns blazing. With 3 original tracks and a couple remixes floating around, 2010 looks like a potentially great year for them. With a hypnotic heavy bass line, “Black The Colour of My Heart” is the best dreamy synth-pop has to offer. As I have been listening to the song over and over, I wondered what makes this song so good? The deep bass, the soothing melody, and the catchy lyrics are all packaged so perfectly together you’ll feel as if your floating away from Earth reminiscing of a love lost. This song is nearly perfect.

I’m not sure how Basement Jaxx’s two records slipped out from under my radar. From what I’ve been able to hear thus far from their first release, Scars, I can’t stop listening to them; especially “My Turn” featuring Lightspeed Champion. This song tickles my fancy in so many different ways. I love Devonté Hynes’  distinct raspy croon that makes you feel like your victimizing him just listening to him sing. This in contrast to the heavy bass – the ever-present, magnificent bass – make for a dance track you can’t help but move to. This one has been on repeat since I discovered I missed it when it came out last year.
