Rad Music // The Strokes – “One Way Trigger”
So, have you heard? The Strokes are coming out with a new album! Isn’t that rad? It’s called Comedown Machine and it’s going to be released on March 26 of this year. Oh, and even more. They put out a new song last last Friday. It’s called “One Way Trigger” and you can give it a listen below and download it for free right from their website!
The Strokes – “One Way Trigger”
A lot of people complain when The Strokes don’t sound like they did on their first two albums, but personally, I don’t give a hoot. Miss that old sound? The go listen to Is This It and Room on Fire and shut your pie hole! Bands and the music they make are like people: they evolve man.
“One Way Trigger” is refreshingly new and has a lot of sounds that aren’t typically associated with The Strokes; Julian’s high pitched falsetto will make you wonder if it is actually him singing and the synths will bring about thoughts of the 80s. While I accept the new sounds with open arms, “One Way Trigger” doesn’t shy away from what The Strokes do best: guitars and lyrics.
The dueling Megaman guitars the come in around the minute and a half mark are to die for. They sound particularly spectacular with headphones as you can really feel their dueling nature. I hope Comedown Machine is packed with these guitars. I also love the chorus. The fact that Julian is telling me to “find a dog” really puts a smile on my face. And come on, “Find a dream; shut it down.” Perfect inspirational lyrics.
When The Strokes make music is it always a magical moment and “One Way Trigger” is no exception. I can’t wait for Comedown Machine!
You can pre-order the album here which will give you instant download access* to the first real single off Comedown Machine, “All The Time,” which should be out in the coming weeks of February.
Get excited boys and girls: The Strokes are back!

Rad Music // 8-Bit Angles by The Necoism
The Necoism is a name that has been mentioned on this blog before. He is a producer who makes the absolute finest 8-bit remixes of my indefinitely favorite band, The Strokes. After admiring his remixes of The Strokes and Julian Casablancas’ solo work, Phrazes For The Young, I followed The Necoism on YouTube like a hawk to make sure that if he posted any 8-bit remixes that tickled my fancy, I’d know about them. And boy did he!
Although his YouTube account only has two of the ten songs – not to mention that nice little medley – from The Strokes’ latest album, Angles, I have for you the entire album in 8-bit glory! Lucky you, right?! I don’t know why he took down the rest of the album, but I luckily grabbed all the full songs before he did.
So here you go Strokes fans – 8-bit Angles remixed by The Necoism.
The Strokes – Machu Picchu (The Necoism 8-bit Remix)

Rad Music // STROKED – A Tribute to “Is This It” and The Strokes
If you’re a Strokes fan like me, you struggled during the 4 year hiatus that led up to the release of “Angles”, The Strokes‘ most recent album. You probably filled the void by listening to live sets, remixes, covers, and side projects – all of which never satisfied your true desire; or at least not mine. Well, I’m happy to say that the good folks of Stereogum have put together a tribute to The Strokes, or more specifically, their debut album, Is This It, that features covers I would have appreciated years ago when all I could ever ask for was more Strokes material. Seriously Stereogum, even though this is a timely celebration of Is This It‘s 10th anniversary on July 30, I really, really, wanted this a while ago. Oh, listen to me, what am I complaining about…
Anyway, for the tribute album, STROKED, Stereogum asked specific artists like Computer Magic, The Morning Benders, and Peter Bjorn & John, to cover specific songs. Most interesting though is the fact that some of the artists had never even listened to The Strokes before given the chance to cover them. I think the mystery on their part adds to the fun and beauty of this tribute album. From what I’ve listened to thus far, the album is all over the place and I’m loving it! So what are you waiting for?!?!
Head over to Stereogum and grab the tribute album. You won’t be disappointed. Or maybe you will. This isn’t an album by The Strokes and it doesn’t sound like them either. It’s almost better though.
