Alright sports fans, now that all the hullabaloo about the Super Bowl is quieting down, let’s introduce something to be really excited for – The Strokes. The preview of the new Strokes song “Under Cover of Darkness” 30 glorious seconds of The Strokes doing what they do best.

It sounds kinda fuzzy, yet nostalgic. Familiar and cozy, and all too refreshing.

The Strokes’ first single, “Under Cover of Darkness” is out February 9th.

The Strokes are officially back

via Rough Trade

Over on the Rough Trade website you will find the above picture along with the tracklist for The Strokes fourth official LP, Angles (not angels with halos, but rather angles with degrees). Angles drops on March 21 in Europe and March 22 here in the USA. I don’t know about you kiddos, but I sure am excited. I don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this, or wait, actually, I know exactly. It’s been 5 years! Anyway, here’s the tracklist:

1. Machu Picchu
2. Under Cover of Darkness
3. Two Kinds of Happiness
4. You’re So Right
5. Taken For A Fool
6. Games
7. Call Me Back
8. Gratisfaction
9. Metabolism
10. Life Is Simple In The Moonlight

Lookin’ good right?! As stated on Rough Trade, “Under Cover Of Darkness” will be the first single bestowed upon us, but no word was given on when that single will drop. Hopefully very very soon. Oh, geez. So excited. Cue Le Tigre!

(UPDATE: No more than a minute after I posted this, The Strokes put up a new mini-site for information regarding Angles. To sum it up, “Under Cover Of Darkness” will be heard on the radio starting February (that’s only a few days away!) and more Spring tour dates will also soon be announced. Check out the mini-site, here.) Still cue Le Tigre, cause I’m so excited!

Bonus

I’m sure everyone – or at least the core Strokes fans – dusted off the demos and rarities in the dry spell of Strokes material: “In Her Prime” is such a nice little gem.

Mundane Mondze Mash-Up 14 // Easter Egg

with one comment

The internet is going crazy over the latest orgy of sound that is the new Girl Talk album, All Day. I listened to it and it was just one big “meh” to me. Personally, I’m not that into the cluster-fuck style of mash-ups that has made Girl Talk so popular. But, if I were to recommend a mash-up producer, whom I think produces far more superior beats than Girl Talk, it would have to be Easter Egg. His style of production is very similar to Girl Talk, but what I think gives him the upper-hand over Girl Talk is song selection. Pure and simple.

Easter Egg is the pseudonym of the young Nathan Pham. The dude has serious producing skills and his mash-up album, Jackin’ For Beats, is quite the stunner. I’m not sure where you can find it anymore, but it was up for free download for quite some time. Anyway, my favorite song from Easter Egg is easily, “You Don’t Know.” This is for one reason and one reason only. The Strokes. Never have I heard such divine sounds coming from a mash-up. Wait for it and be amazed.
